Cristina Iglesias will explain San Sebastian citizens the project for the Santa Clara lighthouse on January 18th

• The talk will take place at the Miramar Palace as part of the MUGAK Biennial programme and will reveal the details of the work that the sculptor will donate to the city.
• On the same day, the North American architect Alex Anmahian will give a lecture entitled "Overcoming the Limits" on the nature of borders.

On Thursday, 18th. of January, the Basque Country International Architecture Biennial MUGAK will have the pleasure of presenting Cristina Iglesias, one of the most distinguished Basque artists. The sculptor will offer a talk at the Miramar Palace in San Sebastián in which she will explain the details of the project she is currently working on, aimed at transforming the lighthouse on Santa Clara Island into a public sculpture that will become an iconic landmark in the city.

Cristina Iglesias' sculpture will be owned by the city thanks to an agreement including the donation of the work and its whole design and supervision process that was signed a few months ago between the San Sebastian sculptor and the city major, Eneko Goia. That is why the Major will be introducing Iglesias on the 18th. before her lecture (which will start at 12 a.m.). The public of San Sebastian will have free access to the talk, subject to capacity.

The artist plans to transform the lighthouse in a public sculpture that will reproduce figuratively La Concha Bay background. The art work will have a large bronze vase as main piece and show the changes produced by tides.

Iglesias will thus add her work to the art landscape on San Sebastian's coastline, composed by "El Peine del Viento" (The Comb of the Wind) by Eduardo Chillida, "Construcción Vacía" (Void Construction) by Jorge Oteiza and "La Paloma de la Paz" (Peace Dove) by Néstor Basterretxea.

Lecture by Alex Anmahian

On the same day, 18th. of January, the Miramar Palace will host another MUGAK Biennial event. At 10 a.m., preceding Cristina Iglesias's talk, the North American architect Alex Anmahian will give a lecture entitled "Overcoming the Limits". Invited by the Habic Cluster - Association of Basque Hospitality, Wood & Design Companies, the expert will speak about the nature of borders "as inspiring and generative elements within a design process".

The architect is a partner at the studio Anmahian Winton, located in Cambridge (Massachusetts) and well known by its designs. Some of his portfolio highlights include the Community Rowing Center in Boston and the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology at Brown University. In addition, he was awarded two American Architecture Prizes this year: one for the design of the Gemma Observatory in New Hampshire and a second one for an office tower in Ankara (Turkey). In San Sebastian, he will explain his philosophy of work through four very different buildings constructed on two separate continents.
