Fernando Savater was born in San Sebastian (1947) and has been a philosophy professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid, at the Zorroaga Philosophy Faculty (University of the Basque Country) and at the Complutense University for over thirty years.

He has written essays, novels and plays, as well as many journalistic contributions. He has won the Nacional de Ensayo, the Anagrama and the Planeta prizes. He directs the magazine Claves de Razón Práctica.
