Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta finished their studies at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Vallés in 1987 and since 1988 work together as RCR ARQUITECTES in their native city, Olot, with a team trained by them. Since 1989 they are the consultant architects for the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone National Park and they have been lecturers of urban planning and landscape architecture at ETSAVE from 1989 till 2001 and members of the board of examiners for Bachelor's theses at ETSAS from 2010 till 2016 (Vilalta). Project lecturers from 1992-1999 and members of the board of examiners for Bachelor's theses at ETSAV from 1995 till 2004 and for projects during 1997-2003 and members of the board of examiners for Bachelor's theses at ETSAB during 2002-2003 and for projects for the landscaping diploma at ETSAB from 2003 till 2005. Since 2008 they organise and manage the International Summer Workshop in their studio, located at the headquarters of former foundry Barberí, with a lab structure RCR LAB A.

They have won the 2017 Pritzker Prize, the National Architecture Award 2006 of the government of Catalonia, the Chevalier and Officier de l'ordre des arts et des lettres 2008 and 2014 of the French Republic, they are honorary members of the American Institute of Architecture 2010 (AIA), honorary members of the Royal Institute of British Architects 2012 (RIBA) and Gold medal of the French Académie d’Architecture 2015.
