The lecture will explore the nature of boundaries—self-imposed disciplinary boundaries as well as those imposed by externalities and contingencies—as inspirational and generative to the design process. The catalytic possibilities of an approach that capitalizes on constraints will be examined through four projects on two continents of significantly varying size, context, and program.
